Buying your first mechanical watch can be a daunting experience, whether it’s a new or vintage piece the whole process can be rather confusing at times. Moving away from quartz opens up a number of different factors, I have partnered with Watchfinder & Co to show you the easiest way to dip your toes into the world of luxury watches.

A watch under 5,000 is heirloom territory, whether this is your first and last purchase or an introduction into the world of watches. The first piece is an important one. I suggest you go for well-known reputable watch brands, some of which can increase with value with constant servicing and care. If you are buying used like the ones listed, always buy from a reputable source such as Watchfinder & Co. With a manufacturer-certified service centre its team has all the tools, experience and knowledge to fully authenticate watches, and for extra piece of mind offer a 12-month Watchfinder warranty with all purchases.

Rolex – Oyster Perpetual
The most famous luxury watch brand and most people’s point of call when delving into the luxury watch market. First developed in the 20s and 30s the Oyster Perpetual combined the brands ground-breaking waterproof case (Oyster) and the superb self-winding in-house movement (perpetual). This is a great choice for those who want something pure and honest.

Driven by a powerful manufacture movement, the Tudor Black Bay Chrono is a worthy new addition to the Tudor range. The motor racing heritage combined with the sporty styling makes it worthy for your consideration. Tudor has increased in popularity in recent years and mainly for its association with Rolex.

Omega - Speedmaster DayDate
The Omega Speedmaster also known as the legendary ‘moonwatch’. It is best known for its work with NASA as the officially sanctioned chronograph for use in space, and as the first watch to be worn on the Moon. This makes a rather special and historical piece. The watch features a great movement and a relatively low price point with great detailing. It does appear to look like a much more expensive watch and looks impressive on your wrist.
